LAUGHTER IN OUR PRAYER LIFE
Sometimes we pray for that which is seemingly so impossible, we later chuckle to think that we dared to pray in a manner that seemed so preposterous! (Genesis 18:12). Later, as we continue to pray, we laugh again because God has assured us that our prayer is being answered. “And Sarah said, “God hath made me to laugh, so that all that hear will laugh with me (Genesis 21:6).”
LAUGHTER CAN BE ASSOCIATED WITH PRAISE
“Then was our mouth filled with laughter, and our tongue with singing: then said they among the heathen, The LORD hath done great things for them. The Lord hath done great things for us; whereof we are glad” (Psalm 126:1,2).
JUST BE SURE YOU DON’T LAUGH OUT OF TURN
|
It has been said,
“A time to weep and a
time to laugh” (Eccl. 3:4).
|
When I was a boy, most of the trouble I experienced came from laughing when I should have kept my mouth shut. A popular song of that day expressed it well,”I laughed at the wrong time!”
Laughing can express either joy of heart or indifference to others. It can also express a cold attitude toward God. Some hear the voice of God with joy and gladness. Others laugh it, off with a shrug and perhaps a wisecrack. Just remember, he who laughs last laughs best!
GOD WILL HAVE THE LAST LAUGH
”The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying, let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us. He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision” (Psalm 2:2-4).
Some today consider themselves too intelligent to believe the Bible. An atheist one day asked a Christian lady if she believed the Bible to be true, and she replied, “Yes, I do.”
“Then,” said the atheist, “Tell me how a whale could swallow Jonah!”
“I really don’t know,” said the lady; but when I get to heaven I’ll ask Jonah.”
“But what if Jonah is not there?” said the atheist.
“In that case you can ask him,” replied the lady.

”Because I have called, but ye refused; I have stretched out my hand; and no man regarded; But ye have set at naught all my counsel, and would none of my reproof; I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your fear cometh” (Proverbs 1:24-26).
GOD’S PEOPLE ENJOY A CONTINUAL FEAST
“All the days of the desponding afflicted are made evil (by anxious thoughts and foreboding), but he who has a glad heart has a continual feast (regardless of circumstances). (Proverbs 15:15 Amplified Bible).
In our day a common physical problem, especially among the elderly, is brittle bones. My Doctor is working over-time trying to improve my bone structure. Now listen to this:
|
“A merry heart doeth good like a medicine:
but a broken spirit drieth the bones”
(Prov. 17:22).
|
We all need a merry heart and the ability to laugh once in awhile, even during trying circumstances. Following are the words of Christ Himself concerning the believer:
|
“Blessed are ye that hunger now:
for ye shall be filled.
Blessed are ye that weep now:
for ye shall laugh”.
(Luke 6:21).
