The Bible Says

The Phrase “HAPPY NEW YEAR!” Implies Contentment
by Charlie Grier

Genuine Happiness

1.   Happiness is not getting what we want --
Happiness is wanting what we get.
2.   Happiness is not merely begging God for more --
Happiness is a grateful heart for blessings and favors already received.
3.   Happiness is a perfume you cannot pour on others --
without getting a few drops on yourself.
4.   Happiness increases –
the more you spread it around.
5.   The only key that unlocks the door to true happiness –
is the key of love and contentment.
6.   Learn to love God, and the things God loves –
and happiness will be part of the package.

Blind But Happy

O what a happy soul am I!
Although I cannot see.
I am resolved that in this world
Contented I will be:
How many blessing I enjoy
That other people don’t!
To weep and sigh because I’m blind
I cannot, and I won’t.
-- Fanny Crosby (8 years old).

“Once Ron (co-author of a book on false teachings) received a letter in the mail accompanied by a package of olive oil. The label of the olive oil read “Holy Bible-anointed Oil.” The letter said:

“Use this Holy Bible-anointed oil. James 5:14 says to turn God’s healing and prosperity on in your life. Are you sick in your body? Use this Holy Bible-anointed oil. Are you sick financially? Use this Holy Bible-anointed oil. Open this Holy Bible-anointed oil. Do not waste a drop.

“Jesus is represented by this faith oil. Make a cross on your forehead with it, and then by faith go into your room by yourself and take the money out of your wallet and make a cross on each bill, so that God will heal your money problems. Take your checkbook. Anoint it with this Holy Bible-anointed oil. Then write the largest check you can and anoint it with this Holy Bible-anointed oil and send it to me. I need your support.

“This is important to you. When you anoint your money with this Holy Bible-anointed oil, make a cross on It and send it to me and God will bless you. Don’t waste a drop.”

---A man of God for 50 years
Fast Facts On False Teachings, by Ron Carlson & Ed Decker (Harvest House Publishers, Eugene, OR) c1994 p195-196

Not all the pastors and evangelists who promote this false teaching follow this exact method in presenting their plan, but all have one thing in common and that is the idea that “we must give in order to git.” Many of these religious leaders become experts in raising money by convincing their audience that “If they bring all their tithe into the storehouse” (Malachi 3:10,11), God will prosper them in every way possible. If the speaker is a pastor, the storehouse is his church. If an evangelist, the storehouse is his Television Ministry.

What’s wrong with raising money? That is part of every minister’s responsibility. It is the idea of “giving in order to obtain prosperity,” that is contrary to the Word of God.

All true Christians find it a delight to support the Gospel Ministry. Many give more than their tithe every month and every year, but they do not give for the purpose of personal gain.

Your Attitude Determines Your Happiness

Deepest sympathy to those whose heart is set upon the riches of this present world. Jesus said, “Lay not up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust doth not corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal, for where your treasure is, there will your heart be also” (Matt. 6:19-21).

What God Has Promised

      God hath not promised
Skies always blue,
Flower-strewn pathways
All our lives through;
God hath not promised
Sun without rain,
Joy without sorrow,
Peace without pain.

But God hath promised
Strength for the day,
Rest for the labor
Light for the way,
Grace for the trials,
Help from above,
Unfailing sympathy,
Undying love.

-- Miss Annie Johnson Flint

A few months ago a close friend of ours requested prayer. The Doctors had found cancer and a major operation was the only answer. We prayed: she had the operation and all went well. Before she was fully recovered, however, she was involved in a major traffic accident and her car was totally demolished. Did she complain and feel sorry for herself? Did she question God’s love in permitting such misfortune? No. She praised God that she was still alive! Her husband is retiring from a lifetime career and both are looking forward to a happy retirement.

Another Year Is Dawning

-- Frances Ridley Havergal

      Another year is dawning!
Dear Master, let it be,
In working or in waiting,
Another year with Thee.
Another year in leaning,
Upon Thy loving breast,
Of ever-deepening trustfulness,
Of quiet, happy rest.

Another year of mercies,
Of faithfulness and grace;
Another year of gladness,
In the shining of Thy face.
Another year of progress,
Another year of praise;
Another year of proving
Thy presence “all the days.”

Another year of service,
Of witness for Thy love;
Another year of training
For holier works above.
Another year is dawning!
Dear Master let it be
On earth, or else in heaven,
Another year for Thee.
